The Problem

# Creating Strategic Alignment Among Newly Unified Groups

The chief information officer of a Fortune 500 technology company saw his organization balloon to 1,000+ employees after an executive-level decision to unify over 20 disparate groups under his management. Each of the groups had different priorities and strategic planning processes which were causing misalignment, confusion, and stagnation. The CIO brought Propeller in to align the newly unified groups under a common set of goals and priorities so that everyone was working together towards the same mission.

Our Approach

# Transforming Goals into Value-Based Results with Effective OKRs

Propeller began by hosting a strategy workshop with the CIO and the director of business operations & strategy to brainstorm key annual goals, aligned with the company’s four evergreen strategic pillars and four primary component divisions. In total, 60 goals were identified, which we then categorized and drafted key results to connect all the themes.

Next, we created and delivered training to the CIO’s direct reports to teach them how to write effective objectives and key results (OKRs), emphasizing a migration from the activity-based results they were accustomed to, towards value-based results which are more effective at driving alignment and progress. We then had them attend virtual workshops where they started with the 60 baseline goals and refined them into a final set of 5 objectives with a total of 26 key results.
