The Problem
# Cloud Migration — Without Business Disruption
A global retail company initiated the migration of its suite of 20+ custom-built applications from on-premises data centers to a cloud service provider. Business in the retail world is 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, so any downtime for these architectural-dependent applications must be kept to a minimum. Also, there were a lot of individuals and moving parts involved with each application, which was managed by a team of engineers and an engineering director, all of whom needed to coordinate with each other and the cloud service provider.
The Approach
# Structure and Visibility to Generate Progress and Accountability
Propeller brought much-needed structure and visibility to the program. To add structure, a regular cadence of meetings was created for the teams to share their progress and facilitate cross-team discussions. In each meeting, actions and owners were identified generating peer accountability for progress. A plan and roadmap were shared across all teams and stakeholders to establish visibility. To take it a step further, large versions were printed and placed around the office for everyone to see.

# Seamless Migration Without Impacting Business Operations
The program turned around quickly, transforming from a group of teams working independently to a singular program focused on a plan everyone understood. Teams no longer had to have side conversations to figure out what was happening but instead relied on the program structure to determine updates and team conversations. Propeller successfully ensured all applications were migrated on time and in a phased approach.
