With the sudden rise in AI technology opportunities, a big tech company realized they needed a strategy for identifying AI opportunities to increase efficiency and enhance products. They needed a roadmap to jumpstart the governance and enablement of AI tech for their engineering organization. Propeller was engaged for a one-month sprint to create the foundational materials to get AI up and running for the company quickly to capitalize on the opportunity.

Our Approach

# Mapping the AI Journey and Use Cases to Align on Opportunities

To start, Propeller established a steering committee with the CIO and three key direct reports to align on key deliverables. We developed a framework for interviewing people to understand how the current operating model could be adapted and what gaps would exist for AI. On the horizontal axis, we mapped out an AI journey: evaluation, contracting, adaptation, activation (technical and people), and monitoring and reporting. On the vertical axis, we mapped three possible use cases: an employee leverages an external AI platform to augment productivity, an employee leverages an external AI platform provided by their organization, and a business unit identifies unique AI opportunities to pursue that are aligned to their strategy. We then interviewed managers and individual contributors to understand what they had, what they needed, and what could be adapted. This collaboration enabled us to deliver:

# A Clear AI Strategy and Path Forward

The company crystallized its AI strategy, driving AI forward for the company and establishing the next steps to socialize internally. The strategy provided a clear path and a timeline to get AI running. Additionally, we recommended centralizing AI around a Center of Excellence, highlighting the need for the client and providing a compelling justification to understand and further support the resource request.
